Siblings attempt to dispose dead brother's body in secluded area
Hyderabad: Unable to pay for the final rites of their brother, who had died after a prolonged illness, his siblings chopped his body and were trying to dump it in an isolated area opposite the Military Hospital late on Thursday night, Langer Houz police said.
Locals caught the siblings, M. Raju and Saroja, disposing of the body of their brother Merugumalli Ashok and called the police.
According to police, the trio along with their mother Balamma, who is in her mid-eighties, stay at NFSL Colony in Rajendranagar. Ashok has been addicted to alcohol for long and fell ill. Raju and Saroja were unemployed.
Raju found Ashok dead in his room on Thursday. Their mother wanted a funeral for the body, but Raju and Saroja told her that they could not afford one.
Late at night, they left home with two bags and boarded an autorickshaw to go towards Mehdipatnam. On the way, they told the driver they did not have the money to pay the fare, and he forced them out near Military Hospital,
When the duo tried to throw the bags that they were carrying, locals noticed them and alerted the police. When the police examined the bags, they found Ashok’s body. Police said the mother was not aware of what the duo had done.
