Chennai: Woman murders alcoholic husband, surrenders in Kanchi
The police also registered a case and further investigation has been initiated to determine if there is another angle to the crime.
Chennai: Tasmac wine shops in the state claimed yet another life after a woman threw a grinding stone on her husband’s head near Kancheepuram on Sunday night. He died with the impact of the throw.
According to the police sources, Sundari (36) of Orikkai village near Kancheepuram had been a victim of prolonged abuse from her alcoholic husband, Thirumurugan, who used to engage in petty quarrels with her in a drunken state. The mother of two - a son (17) and daughter (15) - was worried about her son’s higher education and lost hopes about her drunkard husband helping him get admission.
Sundari’s son has just completed plus-2 and is waiting to join college for higher studies. She sent her children to her mother’s house in the village and waited for the arrival of her husband on the fateful night. As usual, Thirumurugan reportedly came home in an inebriated condition and started a petty quarrel. Sundari waited until her drunken husband went to sleep and brought out a grinding stone and allegedly dropped it on Thirumurugan’s head.
Thirumurugan died on the spot and Sundari went straight to Kancheepuram Taluk police station and surrendered. Shocked police arrested her. “She was upset over her husband’s addiction and had decided to end his life,” the police said. The body was sent to Kancheepuram government hospital for post-mortem.
The police also registered a case and further investigation has been initiated to determine if there is another angle to the crime. With their dad killed and mother jailed, the two teenage children are stranded.
