Coimbatore: Normal monsoon expectation eases pressure
Officials are confident that the expected rains in the days to come will not leave Coimbatore water deficit.
COIMBATORE: The rains textile city has received in the last two days, as part of Southwest monsoon has made up for the low water storage levels in the dams and wells across the city.
Officials are confident that the expected rains in the days to come will not leave Coimbatore water deficit.
"Based on mean data for the last 50 years, a nearly normal monsoon is predicted this year for Coimbatore this year." a source from the Agro Climate Research Centre, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University said.
According to data provided by the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board for observing district water level monitoring of wells for pre-monsoon period for May, the level of water in the wells in 38 panchayats is lower that what it was in May 2014.
However, officials from the civic body are confident that the textile city will not be water starved in the days to come. "Already with two rainy days which we experienced, the water level across the wells and dams has considerably increased. With SW monsoon to last until September and with nearly normal monsoon predicted, Coimbatore should not experience water crisis." an official from the district administration said.
Seconding him is an official from the civic body who added "currently the South and Central zones in the city receive drinking water supply once in six or seven days. With rainy days ahead the situation will only improve."
