Hyderabad: Man scammed by bike seller on Olx
The victim did not meet the person he was buying the bike from and had transferred the money online
Hyderabad: Offering to sell a bike for Rs 25,000 to a city-based private employee, cyber fraudsters posing as a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel working at RGI Airport, extorted Rs 60,000 from the former.
The victim, who realised that he was being cheated only when he was asked to pay more money, lodged a complaint with the Hyderabad cyber crime police. The victim, S. Karim, a resident of Golnaka in Amberpet came across an advertisement on Olx.com on the sale of a used bike. A person, identifying himself as V. Shiva, claimed to be working in the CISF posted at RGIA and was willing to sell the bike for Rs 30,000.
After negotiations, Shiva accepted to sell the bike for Rs 25,000 and shared his mobile number with Karim. When Karim called, Shiva asked him to send money in instalments and also that he has to move the bike out of the airport for which there will be charges for gate-pass, insurance, and security clearance. He was advised to send Rs 60,000 in total and that the remaining amount would be given back while handing over the bike.
Unaware of Shiva’s intent, Karim paid Rs 60,000 through a mobile application. But, when the former asked for another Rs 60,000, Karim went to the airport only to find no person called Shiva worked then and he had been duped.
Karim lodged a complaint with the cyber crime police on Tuesday, who booked a case under the relevant sections of IPC.
