Spate of murders: Three people killed in two separate incidents in Belagavi
One of the deaths was a result of a family tiff, the second was the result of illicit love and the third was a suicide.
Belagavi: Belagavi city witnessed a spate of murders on Tuesday with three getting killed in two separate incidents. In another incident a man committed suicide by jumping in front of a train near Tilakwadi.
The first incident was the result of a family clash. Two people were hacked to death by their elder brother at Alharwad. In the second incident a man was stabbed to death at Goa Ves.
In the Alharwad incident, a clash broke out between three brothers when they were working in the fields.
The accused, Rasul Mulla, picked up a quarrel with his younger brother Mohammad over a property dispute and later attacked him.
Even as their mother tried to pacify them, Rasul hacked Mohammad to death with a sharp weapon.
On hearing his mother’s screams, the youngest brother, Gouse Mulla, came running. An angry Rasul prevented him from carrying Mohammad to the hospital.
However, Gouse managed to take Mohammad out of the fields, but while on his way to hospital he was attacked by Rasul near Gandhi Nagar bridge. Rasul stabbed Gouse and he died on the spot.
Malmaruti police station officials rushed to the spot and shifted the dead and an injured Rasul to the hospital and later registered a case.
In the second incident, a 23-year-old Sharif Nadaf, resident of Sulebhavi was stabbed to death near Goa Ves by Omkar Pote (20), a vegetable vendor and resident of Shahpur.
According to sources, Nadaf allegedly had an affair with Pote's sister. Pote had warned Nadaf during several occasions, but he continued with his relationship.
On Tuesday, Pote spoke to Nadaf on phone asking him to meet at Goa Ves, with a plan to kill him.
In another incident around 12 noon, a 29-year-old man committed suicide by jumping in front of a train near Tilakwadi railway gate.
The deceased was identified as Sachin Jotiba Lohar, a resident of Camp in Belagavi. His body was recovered by the police and the reason for his death is yet to be established.
This is the fifth such incident at the spot in the last few weeks.
