VIJAYAWADA: Parchur police on Friday arrested a man for murdering his mother. The court has remanded him to custody for 14 days.

Martur circle inspector Sheikh T. Firoze said that Maddina Peramma of Kothapalem village of Parchur mandal had been at her home on August 5, 2023. At around 4 p.m., her younger son Anjaiah came and insisted that two acres of land in her name be registered in his name. She refused and asked Anjaiah to return the ₹4 lakh he had borrowed from her.

Anjaiah then entered into a quarrel with her with the intention of killing her. He stabbed her with a knife he was carrying and ran away. Hearing Peramma’s screams, villagers arrived and shifted her to Chirala Government Hospital, where she died while undergoing treatment on August 8.

Parchur sub-inspector N.C. Prasad said they converted the attempt to murder case into a murder case and started investigations. They arrested Anjaiah at 11 a.m. on Friday at the "Y" Junction in Parchur.

Bapatla district SP Vakul Jindal congratulated the police for swiftly completing the investigation and arresting the accused.
