Dawood henchman flees after stealing Rs 40 crore from the don himself
Tapped conversations reveal that Dawood had charged two men with the responsibility of probing the Rs 40 crore fraud.
New Delhi: Underworld don Dawood Ibrahim has managed to keep security agencies off his tail for years now and continues to be hunted and feared by many, but one man seems to have given the slip to one of the most cunning gangsters in the crime world.
According to reports, Khalique Ahmad, a henchman of Dawood, had stolen a staggering amount Rs 40 crore from the don. He was tasked with receiving and transferring the amount from Delhi-based man but he disappeared with the money instead.
Intelligence agencies in India came to know about the incident through tapped conversations between Khalique and Jabir Moti, who is also a Dawood henchman and is based in Pakistan.
Moti was heard confronting Khalique about the transaction and that Dawood had been informed about the missing money and accusing his of misusing the don’s name to steal money, thus bringing disrepute to the gangster’s name.
The tapped conversations reveal that Dawood had charged two men with the responsibility of probing the Rs 40 crore fraud. In the intercepts however, Khalique denies any wrongdoing and tells Moti there had been some ‘mistake’ in depositing the money.
However, Khalique soon went into hiding after the conversation and strengthened suspicions that he had indeed stole the money. He is suspected to be hiding in Manipur currently.
The intercepts however prove that Dawood has taken to money-laundering at a large scale and controls a major part of the black money racket in India. His associates help people convert their ‘black money’ into white cash and charge a very high price for it.
