Hyderabad: Two residents of Gachibowli have taken Aparna Constructions to the police for obstructing the natural water drainage that flows through their property, resulting in waterlogging on C.R. Rao Road, the main road in front of Hyderabad Central University.

Police registered a case under Section 435 of IPC for damage to public property on Wednesday.

Opposite the University of Hyderabad main gate, there is no channel to drain away water. The road connects Serilingampally and Gachibowli.

Mr Ramanjeet Singh, one of the complainants, told the Gachibowli police that the company had repeatedly been dumping construction material into the nala.

He said the GHMC and traffic police had removed the debris on October 2 to allow water to flow. Workers from the construction company dumped debris again on October 6 and 9, resulting in the nala water flooding the road and causing a traffic jam.

The GHMC on October 4 had issued notices to SBI and Aparna Construc-tions for blocking the natural flow of water.

“IT employees are losing over two hours due to the company’s negligence,” said Mr Anumod Thomas. The traffic jam had caused a 700 per cent jump in fuel consumption, causing a loss of Rs 21.5 lakh to motorists, it was stated.

The police officials have stated that investigations are underway. Officials from Aparna Constructions were not available for comment.
