They were also playing loud music and creating nuisance. A local resident informed the police that the men were creating a ruckus by smashing beer bottles on the road.
Head constable Sundar Raj along with a constable Basavaraj attached to HAL police station, who were on night duty, rushed to the spot. The four allegedly attacked Sundar with beer bottles. He sustained grievous cut injury on his head, close to his ear, as a bottle broke when he was hit on his head.
Basavaraj, meanwhile, managed to nab Guruprasad and Surya Prakash, while he alerted the police control room for reinforcements.
Gautham and Prashanth escaped in their car and they drove towards Yemalur, the police said.
A police team soon arrived at the spot and rushed Sundar to a private hospital, where he is said to be out of danger, while another team took the duo to police station.
HAL inspector Pasha and sub-inspector Naveen Kumar formed a team and waited at the Marathahalli bridge with a picket point after they got information the car was heading from Yemalur towards the bridge.
Around 7.30 am, the police team spotted a red car. They did not slow down, but zipped past and some members of the police team had a narrow escape.
Inspector Pasha in his jeep and Naveen on his bike gave the culprits in the car a hot chase. The car brushed against compound wall at HAL and came to halt.
They then got out of the car and ran for around 200 metres before they were caught and brought to the police station.
