Hyderabad: A speeding SUV killed three HMDA outsourced workers planting trees on Outer Ring Road on Friday morning at Medchal. The workers were planting saplings on the median.
The speeding rocky beige Mahindra Bolero crashed into the median and hit the workers. All victims died on the spot.
The deceased are G. Mallesh, 65, L. Appaiah, 58, and P. Sekhar, 25. They were employees outsourced by HMDA for planting trees. Appaiah hails from Odisha and Sekhar belongs to Srikakulam. Mallesh hails from Shamirpet. They had come to Hyderabad for employment.
The Medchal police said the driver was driving rashly. “The vehicle was going to Kandlakoya road from Shamirpet. The driver was speeding and had crossed permissible limits. He lost control over the wheel and the SUV climbed over the median. It hit the victims and stopped only after several meters,” said a police official.
“Due to the force the workers were flung into the air. This caused multiple injuries. They died before getting any medical aid,” said inspector S. Rajashekar Reddy.
Other workers, who were working a few meters away, informed the highway patrol and emergency numbers. However, it was too late when help reached.
Police confiscated the vehicle (AP 29 AU 4419) and arrested the driver. Cops said the SUV is registered in the name of one Cheruku Dasarath.
Police booked a case against the driver under Section 304A. The bodies were removed for post-mortem.
Speeding and lane violations are the major reasons for mishaps on Outer Ring Road.
