HYDERABAD: A detonator went off at a construction site on Monday, creating panic in the area. Though the blast radius was limited to the construction site, a watchman’s wife was hurt when a stone flew and hit her hand, fracturing the same. According to the police, the owner of the land in Road No. 48 of Jubilee Hills had permit to work on the land but did not take proper measures for handling explosives.

“Anil Kumar of Greenko Group, the owner of the land, was working on it with a sub contractor Ashish,” Police Inspector of Jubilee Hills P. Chandra Shekhar said. Explaining the incident, Deputy Commissioner of GHMC Satyanarayana said that it occurred on Monday morning in which the hand of one Bhagvathamma got fractured. According to the builders, who used chemicals to blast a rock there, some debris was left over in the land from six months or a year which caused Monday’s blast.

“A case was booked against Ashish under relevant sections of the IPC and he will be arrested soon,” Jubilee Hills Inspector said. “The contractors had proper permissions to operate on the land. However, the safety measures were not taken to store the explosives,” a police official of Jubilee Hills said. When contacted, the officials of Greenko were unavailable to comment.
