Hyderabad: Just a day after crime, rape suspect dies in road mishap
One of the accused waited along with the luggage, while another one took the woman behind a building and raped her.
Hyderabad: Within 24 hours after allegedly raping a woman at Zaheerabad, two suspects involved in the offence met with a road accident on Wednesday when they were trying to escape from the police.
The accident took place at Sirur village in Raikode mandal, resulting in the death of one of the suspects and leading to injuries to another. The injured person was being given treatment at a government hospital and being questioned.
Meanwhile, the police also apprehended another person involved in the offence and are investigating the past criminal histories of the suspects.
On February 11, two persons forced a 32-year-old woman, who was heading to Hyderabad from Bidar in a bus, to get down on the pretext of checking her baggage. She was transporting banned gutkha packets in her baggage to sell them in the city.
One of the accused waited along with the luggage, while another one took the woman behind a building and raped her. The duo fled from the place, along with the woman’s baggage. She then lodged a complaint with the Zaheerabad police.
Sources said that the police, who took up the probe, analysed the CCTV footage at several places, including the Zaheerabad bus station and learnt that the suspects had fled in a car and were heading towards Bidar.
The suspects, who forced the woman to get down from the bus, were identified as Pavan and Brahma Chary, while the latter’s brother, Soma Chary, assisted them. The trio, hailing from Kazipet and Warangal towns, were said to be involved in several offences in the past, the sources said.
Car rammed into median at high speed
A police team in search of the suspects managed to locate their car and began trailing them.
Realising that cops were closing in on them, the suspects attempted to escape by over-speeding, when their car met with an accident at Sirur village.
A police official, who was part of the probe, said, “two of the accused, who were speeding in a car to escape from the police party, met with an accident. The car rammed into a median at high speed and turned turtle. One of the occupants died on the spot, while the other received mild injuries. He was provided treatment and is being questioned.”
Sources close to the police, said, “the deceased person was identified as Soma Chary of Kazipet in Warangal district. He is said to have assisted his brother Brahma Chary and friend Pavan Kumar in the offence. Pavan is said to have sexually assaulted the woman.”
