BENGALURU: Three people were arrested for murdering their cook over a petty issue and later burnt the body to destroy evidence, in Marathahalli police station limits. 

The accused have been identified as Rami Reddy alias Ram Reddy, 52, who runs a Paying Guest accommodation in Kadubeesanahalli, Vineet, 22, an inmate of the same PG and a supervisor of housekeeping department of a private software company and Mahesh Reddy N, 22, who worked as a supervisor at the PG. The three accused had murdered, Murali, 25, who worked as a cook at the same PG and hailed from Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh. 

According to the police, on April 7 around 7:30 pm, the police received an information that a half burnt body was found on the Challaghatta road and reached the spot.

Preliminary investigation revealed that he was murdered as his hands and legs were tied and his body was later burnt to destroy the evidence.
The police had analysed over 200 CCTV cameras in the surrounding areas and the one from the nearby petrol pump helped them zero in on the killers.

The accused had reportedly purchased petrol to burn the body. The police had also analysed the mobile phone signals of all the suspects and narrowed down on Mahesh. The police detained him and during interrogation he confessed to his crime. Based on his statement, the police arrested the other two. Investigations revealed that Mahesh, who was the supervisor of the PG, was angry that Murali was taking frequent leaves.

On April 6, Mahesh, along with Murali, Ram Reddy and Vineet were drinking alcohol at the PG. An argument broke out between Murali and Mahesh regarding his alleged absenteeism and in a fit of anger Murali assaulted Mahesh. 

The trio the retaliated with sticks and canes and Murali died. They then rented a car to dispose the body. They tied his hands and legs and stuffed his body in a plastic bag. They carried his body in the rented car, threw it in near the Airway compound on Challaghatta road and burnt it down. They left the place and later returned to after sometime to check whether his face was still recognisable or not. The Marathahalli police, led by the inspector Sadiq Pasha, solved the case within three days.
