Bengaluru: Six held for kidnapping, victim rescued
Shivakumar was abducted on April 8. A ransom of Rs1 crore was demanded by the accused.
BENGALURU: The Parappana Agrahara police have arrested six people and rescued a kidnapped man. The accused had kidnapped him and had demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore.
The accused have been identified as Sathyavelachari alias Sathya, 24, a resident of Bannerghatta, Yeshwanth Yadav C.S. alias Yeshu, 20, Vinod Kumar, 21, Sanjay Reddy, 20, Shekar, 20 and Jagannath, 23, all hailing from Kolar. The victim, Shivakumar, was rescued by the police.
On April 8, Shivakumar went out for work in the afternoon along with an interior designing contractor, but did not return home at night. His wife Sudha tried to contact his friends and relatives, but could not find him. The very next morning, she received a call from the kidnappers, through her husband’s phone, and they demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore.
Sudha immediately filed a complaint with the Parappana Agrahara police. The police formed six special teams for the rescue operation and collected all the information from the exit check posts in the city to trace the culprits. Based on credible information the police found that the accused were hiding in Srinivasapura in Kolar. The police chased the accused, Yeshwanth Yadav and arrested him.
While interrogating him, the police gathered all the information and arrested the rest and rescued Shivakumar. The accused, Sathya, is an interior designing contractor and was a friend of Shivakumar. He knew that Shivakumar had recently sold his property and deposited money in the bank.
Sathya was facing financial problems and had requested Shivakumar to lend him some money. However, Shivakumar had refused. An angry Sathya then plotted to kidnap Shivakumar, along with five friends. Sathya requested Shivakumar to introduce him to one of his friends for an interior designing contract.
On April 8, Shivakumar left home along with Sathya to meet his friend. Sathya, along with his friends, kidnapped him and took him to Kolar. Sathya later called Shivakumar’s wife and demanded Rs 1 crore in exchange. He threatened her to kill Shivakumar and send his body to her house if she tried to contact the police and disconnected the call. He later called her again and asked her to meet him near the Sarjapur circle to exchange the money. She went to spot but they did not turn up.
She returned home and he called her again and told her that he will send the dead body of her husband as he got to know that she had approached the police.
However, the police immediately traced the culprits and rescued Shivakumar.
