Chain-snatchers attack father, woman in Chennai
Two incidents of attack in three days.
Chennai: Three days after a 50-year-old man was killed by chain-snatchers on a two-wheeler for fighting back, a woman and her father were attacked by unidentified men on the outskirts of the city, on Friday midnight.
The incident happened when Vishnu Kumar and his daughter Hemapriya (30) of Perungaluthur were returning home.
“Vishnu Kumar is running a pharmacy in Moovarasampet. The father-daughter duo wer returning home at around 11.30 pm on Thuraipakkam - Pallavaram Radial Road from the shop. Hemapriya was riding pillion,” the police said.
When they reached Vels College junction in Chitlapakkam, two persons, trailing them on a two-wheeler, tried to snatch Hemapriya’s gold chain. “But Hemapriya held her chain tight and this resulted in Vishnu Kumar losing his balance. Both of them fell down,” the police added.
They again attacked Hemapriya and snatched her seven sovereign gold chain before fleeing the spot. She sustained injuries.Other motorists tried to catch the snatchers but in vain. Hemapriya was given first aid in a nearby private hospital. Based on the complaint from Hemapriya, the Chitlapakkam police have registered a case and are investigating. On May 9, Jayaraman (50) was hacked to death by chain-snatchers on May 9 near Ponneri. His wife Vijaya and a passer-by Arumugam were severely hurt.
