Family feud: Woman police commits suicide at her residence in Chennai

Her husband Murugan is a head constable attached to Kannagi Nagar police station.

On Friday night, when she was alone in her house, she had reportedly ended her life. The police sent her body to Chromepet Government Hospital for post-mortem.

Chennai: A woman police constable attached to Adyar All Women Police Station (AWPS) committed suicide by hanging at her residence in Chennai, on Friday night.The deceased was identified as Lakshmi (38) of police quarters in St Thomas Mount and a grade-1 constable in Adyar AWPS. Her husband Murugan is a head constable attached to Kannagi Nagar police station.

According to police, the couple had a misunderstanding and they quarreled frequently. “Lakshmi had even filed a complaint against Murugan in St Thomas Mount AWPS in 2007,” the police said.

Police also added that Lakshmi had not reported to duty for last 2 months and was said to be in a depression. On Friday night, when she was alone in her house, she had reportedly ended her life. The police sent her body to Chromepet Government Hospital for post-mortem. Later the body was handed over to the family.  St Thomas Mount police have registered a case and are investigating.
