Hyderabad: A 37-year-old electrician was arrested by the Chaderghat police for allegedly sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl on Saturday. The girl raised an alarm and escaped.
According to the police, the girl had come to stay with her grandparents in Chaderghat for the summer vacation. The accused, Syed Ismail, a father of three children, was their neighbour, a police official said.
Chaderghat inspector G. Sattaiah said Ismail’s family had gone to a function. “Ismail went to his neighbour’s house, lured the girl to his house and tried to assault her. She raised an alarm and escaped from his place and informed her family,” the inspector said. The family then approached the police.
“He was our neighbour all his life, and no one suspected he would do such a thing. A father of three, how could he think of committing such a deed, a family member of the victim said.
Ismail was arrested under provisions of the IPC and PoCSO Act and sent to judicial remand.
Sources said Ismail was associated with the MIM. The inspector said he did not have any information on Ismail’s political affiliation. Malakpet MLA, Ahmed Balala asked the police to take strict action.
