Karnataka: Film on us? Never, warns deadly Dandupalya gang
Some members of the notorious Dandupalya gang even sat on a dharna inside Hindalga prison to protest against the release of the film.
Belagavi: The notorious 11-member Dandupalya gang languishing in Hindalga prison here after they were sentenced to death, is worried about the way its ‘image’' is being tarnished by the producers and makers of the film Dandupalya!
The gang members who are counting their days before being sent to the gallows, have committed extremely heinous crimes including murders, rapes and robberies. Without remorse and shame for their crimes, all of them are exerting pressure on the government and High Court to stop the release of the Kannada feature film Dandupalya-2 set for release on July 14.
According to Hindalga jail authorities, the gang members are aware of the massive commercial success of the film, Dandupalya in 2012 which was based on the exploits and heinous crimes of the gang. What the gang members fear now is the release of Dandupalya part-II which they feel would totally tarnish the image of the gang and Dandupalya village, located near Bengaluru.
“A memorandum has been submitted by the gang members through their advocate to both the High Court and Director General of Prisons demanding that the release of Dandupalya-2 be stopped. The gang is against the film release as it feels that their image and the image of the village has been already tarnished by releasing the first part of the film. It wants the authorities to also prevent the film-makers from showing the village and the gang in bad taste,'' says a top officer of Hindalga prison.
Some notorious criminals from the gang even sat on a dharna inside the prison in protest against the imminent film release and were on a fast demanding that prison authorities help stop the film release, sources said adding that the gang was able to gather details of the sequences and focus of the film sitting in their cells.
According to DIG, Hindalga Prison, T.P. Shesha, members of Dandupalya gang want to convince the High Court about the possible adverse effects of the release of Dandupalya-2. The inmates contended that the film producers did not take their consent before producing a film based on their crimes or lives.
Including 11 members of Dandupalya gang and four members of late bandit, Veerappan's gang, 29 inmates in Hindalga prison are facing the death sentence, lodged in dark cells for more than a decade.
