Bengaluru techie advertises bike online, man poses as customer; poisons him
Police sources revealed that after poisoning his victim, the accused allegedly fled away with his wallet and bike.
Bengaluru: A thirty-five year old techie, who posted an online advertisement to sell his bike, was poisoned with cyanide by a man posing as a prospective buyer.
According to reports, Sohan Haldar was found dead in his house under mysterious circumstances on August 5 when his colleagues decided to check up on him, after he failed to report for work. Forensic reports revealed that Haldar was poisoned and did not die of natural causes, as was assumed.
Sources said that 30-year-old Karthick Daulath accosted Haldar, a software engineer from West Bengal, in a popular online advertising platform. Daulath was posing as a prospective buyer for the ‘KTM Duke’ motorcycle that Haldar had advertised online.
Daulath reportedly reached Haldar’s apartment on August 3, and after discussing the term of sales, the two men decided to have a drink.
Police sources revealed that Daulath poisoned Haldar’s drink with cyanide, and fled away with his wallet, and bike. He also withdrew a sum of Rs 27,000 the same day after finding the ATM pins in Haldar’s wallet.
Call records revealed that Daulath was in continuous touch with him from August 1 to August 3. He was also captured in the CCTV footages, leaving the apartment, and subsequently at the ATM kiosks, withdrawing money.
He was later arrested from his place at Rajaji Nagar.
Daulath has a criminal history and has been caught attempting to steal a gold chain from a jewellery, and has also been nabbed after a failed bank robbery.
