Bengaluru: Did KAS officer cheat woman?
Investigations revealed that they were in a close relationship for a couple of years.
Bengaluru: The police investigating the suicide of Chaitra, who claimed to be the wife of KAS officer Niranjan Babu, are not yet sure whether they were actually married. However, investigations revealed that they were in a close relationship for a couple of years.
Police sources said that Chaitra had started living with Niranjan against the wishes of her parents. “Her parents had objected to their relationship, but she had left them and had started living with Niranjan. She had told her friends that she was married to him and also written about it in her Facebook account. The duo fell in love while working at Karnataka State Warehousing Corporation. When her father Jaya Kumar learnt about it, he advised Chaitra to stay away from him. But she did not pay heed and left the house two years ago to live with Niranjan,” an official said.
Chaitra’s mother gave a statement that the duo was living in a rented house in Jayanagar earlier, but Niranjan avoided marrying Chaitra. “As per her statement, Chaitra had put up with all this harassment, but when it crossed limits she left him and returned to her parents. A few days later, Niranjan went to their house and convinced Chaitra to go with him. But, he did not take her to their Jayanagar house, but made arrangements for her to stay at a PG accommodation,” the official added.
“It is also learnt that Niranjan was married to another woman, but did not reveal it to Chaitra. Though there are many photographs of the couple being together, we have not yet found any evidence that Babu and Chaitra were married. Efforts are on to trace his residential address,” the police said.
The police also visited the BDA office, where Niranjan was posted and gathered details about him. It is learnt that Babu had gone for work on Thursday morning, but left office in a hurry in the afternoon.
