Kochi:  The police  on Friday moved the Ernakulam CJM court seeking permission for conducting an identification parade of Muhammad Marsalim Ansari, arrested in the Kakkanad ATM robbery case, in connection with the murder of his aide. “An application was submitted by the Kalamassery Circle Inspector before the court for holding the identification parade of Ansari. We’ve also moved the Kunnumpuram judicial first class magistrate court  seeking his custody for a minimum of five days. The court  is expected to take up the petition by Monday or Tuesday,” a senior police officer said.

Ansari of Uttar Pradesh was caught from a lodge on  the Alapatt- Kunnumpuram road at Kakkanad five days after the robbery bid at Syndicate Bank ATM at Vazhakala. His aide Muhammad Imran, hailing from West Bengal, was found murdered in the rented room. Though Ansari confessed to  killing Imran, the cops do not believe his version  that he killed his partner as the latter insisted  on surrendering.

The Thrikkakara police will file a separate petition before the judicial first class magistrate court seeking his custody in connection with the ATM robbery cases. “The duo unsuccessfully made seven attempts to break the ATMs but we’re also probing whether they are involved in any other thefts or crimes,” police sources said.
