MP: Tribals made to drink urine in custody, four policemen suspended

The five men, all tribal, were admitted to Alirajpur district hospital after they accused police of torturing them.

Bhopal: The in-charge of the Nanpur police station and three other policemen have been suspended and a departmental inquiry ordered against them over allegations that they assaulted five tribal men and made them drink urine.

Alirajpur Superintendent of Police, Vipul Shrivastav told The Indian Express that allegations of police beating up the men into custody are true. The five also had injury marks on their bodies.

The five men, all tribal, were admitted to Alirajpur district hospital after they accused police of torturing them. The tribal men were arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer.

They were booked under Section 353 of IPC (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty). A local court has released them on bail.

Shrivastava said the inquiry against the police officials will be conducted quickly and action taken against them.
