KALABURAGI: A 70-year-old woman from Taj Sultanpur village on the outskirts of the Kalaburagi city died on Thursday, a day after hearing about the shocking news of the brutal murder of her son, who was kidnapped by assailants a week ago.
The septuagenarian Lalitabai died due to heart attack after hearing the news of her son Monappa’s (42) death.
According to police, Monappa, a contract employee at Gescom, was kidnapped on October 7, and the same day the kidnappers called up the family and demanded a ransom of Rs 6 lakh.
The family members managed to arrange for the said amount and handed it over to the gang members at the said location after they assured that he (Monappa) would be freed unharmed.
However, the payment of a kidnapper’s ransom failed to save the life of Monappa, who was bludgeoned to death despite the ransom.
The police recovered the decomposed body of the victim from an isolated area between Syed Chincholli and Narona village in Aland taluk of district on Wednesday. They suspect that he may have died four to five days back. A case has been registered in rural police station.
