Hyderabad: For the first time, an offender who is involved in a financial crime, has been detained under the PD Act by the Rachakonda police. Commissioner Mahesh Bhagawat issued the order to detain businesswoman Aruna Reddy, who duped many people to the tune of crores of rupees.
According to the police, Jonnagari Aruna Reddy from Siddipet district was married to Madhusudan Reddy, who was working in the Medak ordinance factory. After his death in an accident, she got a job on the compassionate ground.
Meanwhile, her father secured a Rs 40 lakh loan from UCO Bank by pledging land documents. Aruna and her younger sister signed as guarantors. After her father’s death, the sisters were booked by the CBI for cheating the bank with forged documents. Subsequently, she was suspended from her job. After release from the prison on a bail, she got death benefits of her father and entered the real estate business.
She cheated innocent people under the pretext of selling lands to them and earned crores of rupees. She also took the help of history-sheeters to threaten the victims who demanded their money back. She projected herself as a woman from a rich family by wearing costly ornaments and travelling by costly vehicles. She also boasted of her contacts with higher-ups.
“She also induced people to buy gold. She accepts the money and escapes from the locality. If the victims trace her, she issues them cheques which also bounced,” said the commissioner.
She had duped 19 persons to the tune of over Rs 3.2 crore. Ten cases are registered against her since her release from the jail. She was sent to the Chanchalguda central prison for women.
