Five arrested for murder in Vijayawada

VIJAYAWADA: Bhavanipuram police arrested five persons in connection with a November 7 murder in Bhavanipuram agency area. The victim, Kopuri Ramesh, was beaten to death by his friend Praveen and four others following a dispute between Praveen and the victim.

Kopuri Devadasu, father of Ramesh, had on November 10 lodged a complaint to Ajit Singh Nagar police about his son’s disappearance from November 7.

Addressing a press meeting here on Saturday, Vijayawada West ACP K. Hanumantha Rao said that Kopuri Ramesh from Ajit Singh Nagar went to the residence of his friend Praveen in Bhavanipuram agency area on November 7. A dispute broke out between the two over a petty issue and in a fit of rage Praveen with his friends attacked Ramesh, who died on the spot. Praveen kept the body for two days in his residence.

During the course of investigation, police came to know that Ganta Sai Kiran Reddy alias Naresh, Sunkara Gowtham alias Chinnababu, Yarasani Suvarna Raju alias Prasanna and Kommu Joseph assisted Praveen. The police arrested the five on Saturday and produced them in court.
