Hyderabad: 13 criminal cases have been booked against racketeers who were using chemical laced chilli-spent to make chilli powder for consumption.
The case was booked based on complaints filed by Vigilance and Enforcement sleuths.
Khammam Vigilance inspector N. Venkatesh said several arrests were made in the case by police and one B. Srinivas, the finance manager of Chenguang Biotech (India) Pvt. Ltd, a Chinese company in Mudigonda of Khammam district has also been arrested.
“Chilli-spent’ treated with chemicals like acetone and hexane is sold for human consumption. A case was booked under Section 420 for cheating and the Essential Commodities Act,” said Mr Venkatesh. FIRs have been issued in Khammam, Mudigonda, Mahbubabad, Warangal and Madhira police stations.
Vigilance sleuths also seized a large number of chilli spent from the cold storages of Khammam district. Food safety authorities also collected samples for tests.
