Telangana: Two ambulance drivers held for drunk driving

Two ambulance drivers were on Tuesday arrested for drunken driving near a toll plaza on Chottupal-Vijayawada National Highway.

Hyderabad: Two ambulance drivers were on Tuesday arrested for drunken driving near a toll plaza on Chottupal-Vijayawada National Highway. The accused were identified as Abbas Syed and J. Narsimha, both belonging to Hyderabad. The driver of vehicle number 1AP28 AB8629 had 111mg blood alcohol content (BAC), while that of vehicle AP09 W7938 had 77mg BAC.

Mahesh Bhagwat, commissioner of Rachakonda police, said, “Earlier, we used to only conduct drunk driving tests in the city limits during nights, but now we have begun conducting surprise checks at various junctions, including the highways and the city outskirts. We check all vehicles, including ambulances.” “We will take strict action against the accu-sed. They could be imp-risoned for six months and fined Rs 2,000,” he said.

25 violators produced in court:

As many as 25 persons who were booked for drunken driving were produced before the third metropolitan  court in Nampally on Monday. Among the 25 who were caught in the Nampally traffic station limits for drunken driving, three accused were sentenced to imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 3,100 each. The driving licence of one of the accused was suspended for six months and fined Rs 2,100. The remaining accused were simply fined  Rs 2,100.
