Hyderabad: A man who forced a girl into prostitution was arrested by the Banjara Hills police on Friday. The incident came to light when the 17-year-old girl who went missing from home, told the police how she was harassed by her foster father Govind and forced into prostitution for making money.
Police said that the accused, J. Govind, 39, who owns a meat shop in Banjara Hills, developed a relationship with the victim's mother Padma, after her father Ramesh passed away nearly six years ago. Padma was working in a nearby hospital at that time.
Meanwhile, Padma got addicted to alcohol and as per the request of Govind's wife Laxmi, she gave her two daughters to them. Later, Padma also went missing.
Since then, Govind and Laxmi forced the girl to have intercourse with other men. They harassed her physically, whenever she refused. Unable to bear the torture, the girl ran away from home a month ago and Govind lodged a missing complaint with the police.
On inquiry, Police found the girl was taking shelter at her friend's house, whom she had met at a parlour.
"When asked about the reason for running away from home she detailed her experience," said Banjara Hills SI Santosham. Based on her statement, police arrested Govind and sent him to judicial remand.
Police found that, initially, Govind stayed in the Borabanda area. When his neighbours noticed that he and his wife were harassing the girls he shifted his house to Indira Nagar in Banjara Hills. Police are now checking if he had forced the younger girl too into prostitution.
