Telangana: Family gets student's body after paper hitch

Hyderabad: The parents of a 25-year-old student who died of ill health in Poland had a tough time in getting her body as the RGI Airport. Jogi Nagalakshmi died on February 8 and her body was flown to the city in a Qatar Airways flight, but it was not handed over to the family due to a hitch in the documents. After running around emigration and Qatar Airways offices, the body was handed over to the family in the afternoon. They blamed the Qatar Airways staff for negligence in processing the documents. Nagalakshmi was expected to complete her Masters in June and return to India, but her sudden death shattered her family. Qatar Airlines personnel were unavailable for comment.

Nagalakshmi, the eldest daughter of Mr Venkateswarlu and Vijayalakshmi, completed engineering from Mallareddy Engineering College in 2012. In 2014 flew to Poland for Masters in Mechanical Engineering. On January 16, she suddenly fell sick and was admitted to hospital. While undergoing treatment, she developed an infection and died on February 8. The body was handed over to the Indian embassy in Poland on February 10, after completing formalities. Two hours after the flight landed her family was allowed to see the body, but when they contacted officials for formalities, they said her passport was missing.

“The Indian embassy retained the passport for insurance purpose and sent a copy of it with the documents. They clearly mentioned it in the attached letter. But they were not aware of this and refused to hand over the body,” Nagalakshmi's uncle Bhav Singh, an employee of BDL said. They said that it was purely due to the negligence of the airlines that the delay happened. "Till morning there was no one from the airline to answer us," another relative said. However, the body was handed over after pursuing the matter with officials in Poland.
