BENGALURU: After a struggle of nearly six months, Arun Kumar, a computer businessman who was trying to register an FIR related to a cheating case against Sathish R. Shet, a politician, for swindling him of Rs 4.5 crore, the Malleswaram police swung into action and registered a case.

Taking note of the report published in Deccan Chronicle on March 1 — headlined ‘Cheated of Rs 4.5cr...’ – the Malleswaram police registered the FIR on March 4.

Mr Arun Kumar told Deccan Chronicle, “On March 2, I had gone to the commissioner’s office and met additional police commissioner Mr Reddy. I told him about the struggles I was going through. He immediately called up the police station concerned and ordered his junior police officers to register the FIR.”

He said, “On March 3, I went to the Malleswaram police station and met the inspector, who asked me to give all the documents related to the case. I, my wife and our son gave three separate complaints as we have been separately cheated by Shet. The next day, the FIR was registered. But, the police refused to file separate complaints and clubbed all our complaints into one FIR. It has become a cause of worry for men now.”

But 10 days after registering the FIR, the police are yet to take action against the accused, he said.

“I am not the only one who has been cheated by Shet. He has duped many others. But, the police seem not to be interested in pursuing the case,” he said.

Mr Kumar met the accused in 2012 during a business transaction. Claiming to have influence with the police, government and BDA officials, and ministers in the state cabinet, Shet allegedly swindled Rs 4.5 crore from Kumar and his family through various bogus and fraudulent transactions.

Mr Kumar had paid the money to Satish at different times for a BDA site and a seat at IIM-Bengaluru for his son Akash along. His wife Prathima too had given Rs 2.5 crore to Shet for a property near Shivananda Circle.
