Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Special Operations Team rescued 24 cocks on Sunday that were being used for cockfights in Malkajgiri. Police arrested 29 persons including the organiser and seized around Rs 3.02 lakh and 23 knives during the raids.
Police said the cockfights were organised by a person from Krishna district named S. Narsi Reddy and one S. Phani Kumar was assisting him in publicising the event. Narsi Reddy who was staying at Jeedimetla was organising cricket betting and cockfights in the city.
“He is a habitual offender and was earlier arrested thrice by various police stations in Cyberabad for organising cockfights and cricket betting,” said Special Operations Team OSD E. Ramchandra Reddy
After receiving credible information SOT teams from Malkajgiri conducted raids on a farmhouse owned by one Harishwar Reddy in Akula Mailaram village in Yacharam police station limits.
During the raids police also seized 31 mobile phones, eight cars and three dead cocks. Two other organisers are absconding. The arrested persons and the seized material were handed over to Yacharam police.
