Belagavi: A minor girl and a married woman were gangraped by a gang of five near Belagavi on Sunday afternoon taking the two into a secluded place near Yargatti on a bike.

The woman, who is married, is a relative of the minor and the two were going home when they were picked up by the gang and raped.

Superintendent of Police Ravikantegouda said that the five accused, who have been arrested, are identified as Padeppa Bannur, Beerappa Kitadal, Mallappa Junjuri, Beerappa Adakalagundi and Maruti Bavihal, all residents of Yaragatti. Accused Bannur is a relative of the two victims and has been named the main accused in the case.

When the woman and minor were returning home from a hospital in Yargatti, Bannur on the pretext of dropping them home took them on the bike. Soon, four others, who are allegedly his friends, chased him and reached the fields where he had taken the woman and minor.

All the five accused raped the woman and minor in the fields and fled from the spot. The victims then filed a complaint with the police. The police traced all the five at Yargatti and arrested them.
