TIRUNELVELI: In yet another case of suspected ‘honour killing’,  a Dalit woman, aged 26, was murdered, allegedly by a caste Hindu, here over an inter-caste love marriage.

Viswanathan (25), a railway employee had eloped with his lover, Kavery (20), belonging to the Thevar community on May 3 and married her. The city police commissioner, Thirugnanam, said the girl’s parents and relatives objected to the wedding. Kavery’s father, Sankar, picked a quarrel with the bridegroom’s family.  

Viswanathan’s sister, Kalpana, was hacked to death. Viswanathan was not present at the time of the incident. ‘On March 13, a young inter-caste married couple was brutally attacked by a gang with sickles in full public view in Udumalpet, resulting in the death of the husband.
