Sandalwood theft bid foiled, culprits escape

Bengaluru: Sandalwood thieves gave police a slip while they were attempting to cut a tree in broad daylight located on a vacant plot in Whitefield.  Though the police  chased them they could not catch them, but the culprits left behind a mobile phone.

The incident took place on Sunday morning around 11:30 am. Police said that an alert resident who was living in an adjacent apartment noticed three men trying to cut a sandalwood tree nearby. He called up the police control room, who in turn alerted Whitefield police. A police officer said that head constable Vittal B. Murkibhavi and constable Rajkumar, who are on patrolling nearby, rushed to the spot and found the miscreants cutting a sandalwood tree.

According to the police, as soon as the police tried to catch them, the trio escaped leaving behind a chopper and a mobile phone. 

Police have seized the chopper, phone and the sandalwood logs left behind by the trio, for further investigation. The Whitefield police have registered a case and are trying to track down the accused using the mobile phone.
