Chennai: Call taxi hijacked after attacking driver

Chennai: A three-member gang allegedly attacked a call taxi driver and snatched his purse and mobile before throwing him out of the car and drove away the vehicle on Saturday night in Ambattur industrial estate.
Shahul Hameed (28), of BV Colony in Vyasarpadi, who drives his relative’s vehicle for a private call taxi service, was woken up at around 3.30 am Sunday when he was sleeping in the car parked near the Ambattur Estate police station.
The three men asked him to take them to a hospital in Kolathur where their ‘friend’ was admitted.
Shahul told them to book the car using the mobile app. But they refused and forced him to take them to the hospital. On the way, they assaulted him and stopped the car before asking him to sit in the back seat.
The gang members assaulted him, snatched his purse and mobile phone before dumping him in Thiruvengadam Nagar and then escaped with the car.
Local residents noticed an injured and unconscious Shahul on the roadside and took him to a hospital. He later lodged a complaint with the Ambattur estate police.
