Hyderabad: A 38-year-old man drowned in a lake in Bahadurpally in suspicious circumstances. His family alleged that his cousin got him drunk, pushed him into the lake and murdered him. The body of the victim, A. Venkatesh Yadav, was retrieved from the lake on Sunday by Dundigal police.

Yadav’s family said he had left home to pay the school fees of his kids on Saturday but did not return. Later, they were told that he had drowned in a lake by local residents. But, his sister said that Yadav was a good swimmer and that there is no way he can get drowned.

Police booked a suspicious death case. Inspector Sankaraiah said that Yadav had taken Rs 12,000 from home saying that he was going to pay the fees of his kids. On the way, Yadav met his friend Narasimha, who purchased liquor from a nearby shop and made Yadav join him. Yadav's cousin, Satish, also joined them with another bottle of liquor. They drank near the lake and Narasimha left them later.

“Venkatesh and Satish got down to swim and since he was drunk Yadav  drowned. Satish managed to come out. This is what Satish told us. But, his family alleges that Yadav was murdered. We are investigating,” said the inspector.
