Thane: Couple held for abandoning baby girl on railway platform

Thane: A couple has been arrested from Hyderabad for allegedly abandoning their baby girl on platform of a railway station in Thane district in November, ostensibly due to poverty.

Subhadra Yadav (21) and her husband Gorakh Yadav (26) were arrested and booked under section 317 (exposure and abandonment of child under twelve years, by parent or person having care of it) of IPC for allegedly abandoning the then two-and-a-half-months old girl on a platform of Khadavli railway station, GRP DCP Rupali Ambure told reporters in Thane on Wednesday.

Police had handed over the baby to 'Janani Ashish Charitable Trust in Dombivli, which named her as Ruchita.

During their investigation, police examined CCTV footage and acquired contact number of one of Gorakh's friends in Kalyan. The DCP said prima facie they abandoned the girl due to poverty.

While Goarakh is working as a painter, Subhadra in a factory in Telangana.
