Andhra Pradesh: RTA to introduce online service for driving licence

250 to 300 applicants come to the RTA office.

Update: 2017-12-14 05:28 GMT
To ensure safe travel to commuters, teams of officials from road transport, police, roads and buildings and National Highway Authority of India will inspect nearly 300 km of National Highway-16 to find out lapses leading to accidents as part of the road safety audit programme in East, West Godavari and Krishna districts from August 8 to 31.

Nellore: The RTA is set to introduce online services to make the process of applying for driving licences easier. Hitherto, applicants had to wait in serpentine queues at the transport offices to pay the fee and submit their applications or depend on agents for a not-so-small fee. Now, applicants have to go to the office only for the driving test and everything else is done online. Applicants should upload their passport size photograph, documents pertaining to residential proof, Aadhaar number, learner’s licence details, thumb impression on the AP transport website aprta.epragati.-org and pay the fee in the same portal through net banking.

The applicant will receive a message on his mobile if the documents are in order. Information will be sent through SMS with regard to date of driving test as well as result of the test. People can also renew the licence online by uploading relevant documents including a passport photograph. In this case also, message will be sent to the mobile phone of the applicant if everything is in order and also after the approval.

The licence (card) will be dispatched to the applicants by post whether it is renewal or a new licence. Sharing the information to this newspaper, deputy transport commissioner N. Sivarama Prasad said some 250 to 300 applicants come to the office daily for their driving licence. That will be a thing of the past. Hinting that the online services will be launched in few days, he said the RTA was contacting organisations such as Krishnapatnam Port, Sri City SEZ and Lorry Owners Associations and others to open counters.
