Dowry Death: Farmer Killed By His Elder Brother

HYDERABAD: A 37-year-old farmer died after he was thrashed brutally by his elder brother in Kodangal.

According to Kodangal police, the accused Bala Ramu attacked his younger brother Mala Hanmanth, with a lathi following a heated argument over dowry at his house late Wednesday night.

Hanmanth, who was bleeding profusely, was rushed to a nearby hospital by his wife Mala Savatri and mother Mala Laxmamma. The doctors referred him to Osmania general hospital, where he succumbed while undergoing treatment, police said.

Hanmanth and Savitri, who were married in 2020 and have a two-year-old son, were humiliated often with Ramu and Laxmamma demanding Savitri to bring more dowry. The situation worsened on Wednesday and in a fit of rage Ramu removed a lathi and smashed his brother’s head, said inspector A. Ramlu.

Police registered a case of murder under 302 IPC against Ramu and reportedly took him into custody.
