11 arrested for betting, cockfight on Hyderabad outskirts

Hyderabad: Medipally police has arrested 11 persons for organising a cockfight and betting money in connection with the Pongal festival. The cockfight was being held at an isolated place on the outskirts of the city on Monday. Police and rescued three cocks.
Medipally inspector B. Anji Reddy said that at around 5 pm, police received information that some persons were organising cockfight in an open place at Satyanarayanapuram area. A team of police rushed to the spot and apprehended 11 persons. Those who were arrested have been identified as Bothula Nagaraju, Kunchala Anjane-yulu, Tanneru Subba Rao, Orsu Vijay, Tanapadi Subba Rao, Yasarapu Venkatadri, Kunchala Subba Rao, Pallapu Srimannarayana, Karnati Srinivas Rao, A Venkaktaiah and G. Praveen.
The inspector said that the rescued cocks along with the accused and Rs 1,350 cash seized and eight mobile phones confiscated would be produced before the court for further action. A case has been booked against the accused under section 9 (1) of AP Gaming Act, he said.
