Rs 10 lakh compensation for kin of girl, accused held
VIJAYAWADA: Home Minister Taneti Vanitha has made it clear that the YSR Congress government would not allow the escape of anyone who commits a crime just as the police have arrested the accused within an hour after the murder of a minor girl in Tadepalli on February 12.
Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced a monetary assistance of Rs10 lakh to the victim's family.
Addressing the media here on Tuesday, the home minister said the police acted fast in arresting the accused.
Slamming the Opposition, she said, “It is not just inhumane but shameful how the Telugu Desam is trying to derive political mileage out of this tragedy. Misinformation about the incident is being spread to paint the government in a bad light. Personal rivalries are being given a different twist. I urge Chandrababu Naidu not to stoop so low.”
Dismissing rumours that the incident involved the consumption of ganja, Vanitha said, “The state government has dealt with the ganja problem in a strong manner. So far, Rs 2 lakh kg of ganja has been caught, and necessary action taken against the guilty.”
“The government is also trying to create awareness in tribal/agency areas against the use of narcotics. It is so unfair to politicize this murder,” she said.
Stepping up the attack against the TD, Vanitha said, “Tell me one thing the TD government did to ensure women's safety? During Chandrababu's term, not only did such victims not get shelter, but many heinous criminals were allowed to escape from police hands.”
