Bengaluru: Alcoholic stroke patient stabs father-in-law to death

BENGALURU: A 35-year-old hemiplegic man was arrested by the Yeshwanthpur police on charges of murdering his father-in-law over a domestic row at BK Nagar on Monday.
The police identified the deceased as Nataraj and the arrested as Sathyanarayana, a patient of hemiplegia – which is complete paralysis of one side of the body. Sathyanarayana had turned an alcoholic after he suffered a stroke three years ago and demanded money from his wife and father-in-law regularly.
Sathyanarayana got married 13 years ago and the couple has a daughter. Nataraj was a tailor, while Sathyanarayana was working at a private firm.
After the stroke, Sathyanarayana had stopped going to office as he could not walk and work. Since then, his wife took care of the domestic affairs and expenditure. Nataraj too helped the family, the police said.
Around 9 am on Monday, Sathyanarayana asked for money from his wife again and picked up a quarrel. She ignored him and continued with her household chores. Natraj advised his son-in-law to give up alcohol and not to harass his wife. A heated argument followed and Sathyanarayana picked up a knife from the kitchen and stabbed Nataraj in the abdomen repeatedly.
Neighbours, who heard Nataraj’s cries, rushed to his help and took him to a hospital, where died of his injuries, the police said.
