Dalit youth murder in Tamil Nadu: Wife not allowed to attend funeral
Dalit family agrees to take youth's body.
Coimbatore: As the body of Dalit engineering student Shankar, who was slain in brutal ‘honour’ killing, was taken to Udumalpet for the funeral, his wife, Kausalya, who was also attacked by the killer gang, pleaded with the police to allow her see her husband’s body.
“I want to attend the funeral. I want to see my husband for one last time,” she pleaded with the cops, who are providing security for her at the Government hospital in Coimbatore, where she is undergoing treatment for head injuries. But the police stoutly refused, anticipating law and order problem and communal tension.
Kausalya also demanded that her parents, uncle and grandmother, who were responsible for the killing be arrested immediately. “My parents should be arrested and hanged. They are responsible for my husband’s killing,” she told the media at the Government hospital in Coimbatore, where she is being treated for head injuries.
