Tamil Nadu honour killing: Four, including girl's mother held for attack
Kausalya, who too was assaulted, has blamed her father for the attack.
Dindigul: Four persons, including the mother of the girl, whose husband was brutally hacked to death in full public view in a suspected case of honour killing in Tirupur district were arrested today, police said.
While one of the accused was arrested at Pattiveeranapatti village, the other three were held at Vaduthukulam hamlet, both falling in Tirupur district, they said.
Barring the name of one Manikandan, the names of others arrested were not known.
Manikandan had come with the father of the girl, who surrendered before a Judicial magistrate at Nilakottai in this district, but had opted to stay at Pattiveeranpatti.
Police arrested him on getting information that he was at the village and took him to Udumalapettai, the place of attack.
Kausalya, who too was assaulted, has blamed her father for the attack.
The video of the brutal attack on 22-year-old Shankar aired across TV channels showed his three killers approaching him while he was with his wife in broad daylight, at Udumalpettai in Tirupur district on Monday.
The men were seen repeatedly attacking the couple. Shankar was left lying by the roadside in a pool of blood. Facing no resistance, the trio left the place on a two-wheeler.
Though the incident was widely reported on Sunday itself, the video showed the brutality of the episode with political parties like Congress, Left, MDMK, VCK and DK condemning it and calling for immediate arrest of the culprits.
Kausalya, recovering at the government hospital, had told reporters that her father was against their relationship and had threatened to act against Shankar.
He had clearly told her that if she returned home alone, Shankar will be spared, she claimed. Kausalya had also said she would be in a position to identify the culprits.
