Warangal Banker Steals Rs 8.6 cr to Fund Online Gambling

WARANGAL: A 29-year-old deputy manager of a private bank siphoned off '8.65 crores from the bank to fund his addiction to online gambling at Narsampet in the Warangal district.

According to circle inspector S. Ravi Kumar, the deputy manager of Narsampet branch of the bank, identified as Bairishetty Karthik, who was addicted to playing online rummy and other games, created fake loans sanction, and transferred the money into his account to fund online gambling.

The fraud came to light during an audit conducted by the bank’s regional head O. Srinivas, who found that more than '8 crores of the bank money was siphoned off by the deputy manager of the branch.

After a complaint by Srinivas, a case was filed against the accused Karthik, who is at large. A manhunt was also launched, said the police. Meanwhile, the bank's regional head assured the customers of the branch not to worry about the fraud and said they could carry out transactions as usual without any problem.
