Madras high court stays proceedings against Nanjil Sampath

Chennai: The Madras high court has stayed criminal proceedings initiated against Nanjil Sampath, propaganda deputy secretary, AIADMK (Amma) and a supporter of TTV Dhinakaran. Justice M. S. Ramesh granted the interim stay when a petition filed by Nanjil Sampath came up for hearing on Thursday. Nanjil Sampath in the petition, sought direction to the police to quash case-s registered against him on a complaint from a local BJP office-bearer, alleging that he criticized and abused Tamilisai. He said that the statement made in connection with her was neither defamatory nor amounting to outraging her modesty. The police with an intention to tarnish his image and reputation had registered the cases at various police stations violating principles of law and provisions of Cr.Pc, he said.
