Hyderabad: Rs 50 lakh worth property stolen from farmhouse

The elderly couple had installed an iron grill and locked it, but the grill was cut.

Hyderabad: On Thursday night, unidentified suspects broke into farmhousebelonging to a US citizen located on the outskirts of the city and made away with property worth around Rs 50 lakh, including US dollars, even as the owners continued to sleep.

Prasad Rao and Rajya Lakshmi, septuagenarians had returned from the United States and were living at their Haritha Farmhouse located in Dharmagi village in the outskirts of Shamshabad. Their children lived in the USA and the couple too had settled there.

According to RGI Airport inspector A Gangadhar, in the wee hours of Thursday when the elderly couple was sleeping, some unidentified persons gained entry into the house and stole gold and cash including US dollars.

“The elderly couple had installed an iron grill and locked it, but the grill was cut. They had kept the keys of the almirah outside it on a desk, using which the burglars opened the locks and took away the USD, Indian currency and gold which together was worth about Rs 50 lakh, according to the complainant, who was sleeping in another room along with his wife,” said the inspector.

He said that the couple was earlier alerted by the police to install CCTV cameras, as they did not engage a security guard. 

The crime team along with the dog squad and clues team inspected the scene of the crime and collected some clues. 

A case of burglary has been registered and the investigation has been taken up, said the inspector.
