Cops recover Rs 50 lakhs from two-wheeler

Hyderabad: The North zone task force seized almost Rs 50 lakh from a duo riding a two-wheeler who tried to evade the police at a checkpost and hit a police vehicle, on Saturday. A task force statement said the police were conducting routine vehicle checks at Himayathnagar when they signalled a two-wheeler to stop. The rider, instead of stopping, took a reckless U-turn and tried to drive away in the wrong direction. In the process, he rammed into a government two-wheeler, causing the rider to fall. Police swooped on the getaway rider and inspected the vehicle which yielded unaccounted cash of Rs 49,97,500. The accused were identified as Mohd. Ateeq Ahmed and Kazil Malik.

 

Boy touches the iron fence, electrocuted

Hyderabad: An 11-year-old Class VI student died of electrocution in Mayuripuri after he accidentally touched an iron fence on which a power line had fallen, police said on Saturday. The victim, V.  Rishith, was playing tennis when the incident occurred at about 7 p.m. on Friday. His father V. Gopal Krishna and his mother rushed him to a private hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead. Miyapur police registered a case of suspicious death and are investigating. The victim’s body was shifted to Gandhi Hospital for postmortem.

 

Lorry runs over two, driver escapes

Hyderabad: A lorry driver lost control of the vehicle which ran over two pedestrians, including a staff nurse, and killed them on the spot, Medchal police said on Saturday. The victims were identified as Yashoda, a 28-year-old staff nurse at a private hospital and Kompally resident, and Subhash Chandra, a 40-year-old accountant. Medchal inspector Narsimha Reddy said the incident occurred around 7 pm, The lorry (NL01 AC 6585) first hit Yashoda, who was crossing the road near a theatre on Kompally Road. The driver attempted to drive away but hit Chandra. The driver then fled the scene. “We suspect that the driver may have been under the influence of alcohol,” the inspector said. Police are reviewing CCTV footage to identify and trace the driver, police said.

 

Cabbie found dead with stab wound marks

Hyderabad: Rajendernagar police found the body of a 35-year-old car driver, Shaik Sarvar, with multiple stab injuries near in Janachaitanya Phase-3 early on Saturday. Sarvar was reported missing from his house in Sulaiman Colony on Friday night. Police said Sarvar was insisting that his friend Mohammed Ghouse alias ‘Khooni  Ghouse’ and his two associates, Mohammed Naseeruddin alias Sam and Shoeb alias Titu, surrender before the Attapur police for their involvement in a case. Police said that Ghouse asked Sarvar to meet him at Janachaitanya Phase-3 at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. It is suspected that when he reached there, the trio murdered him and fled. Locals who saw the body called the police. Sources said two suspects had been taken into custody.

 

190 harassers held during Ganesh fest counselled

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad She team said it had apprehended 488  individuals for harassing women in various places during the Ganesh festival. All of them were counselled along with their parents with Psychologists and counsellors on Friday counselled 190 individuals whom the Hyderabad She teams had booked for harassing women during the Ganesh festival. At the counselling session at the Basheerbagh office of the She teams the 190 respondents were, including 19 minors and 103 parents and guardians. The counselling was led by psychologist Geetha Challa, along with a team of nine counsellors. Gajarao Bhupal, joint commissioner, women's safety, said "One of the primary goals of the She teams is to guide and correct misguided individuals. To achieve this, counselling sessions for both the respondents and their parents are conducted by psychologists and counsellors. We need to sensitise them and teach them to respect women and how to behave with women. We need to counsel the parents on guiding and monitoring their children's behaviour.” The counsellors conducted practical activities and role plays to help the attendees understand and empathise with the difficulties women face due to certain behaviours.

 

Delivery executive attacked by two

Hyderabad: Alok Kumar, 27, an executive with a food delivery app, was allegedly attacked by two persons in the Gachibowli area at about 3 a.m. while he was making a delivery. Kumar, a resident of Chandanagar, said they asked for a mobile phone. He refused and one of them slashed at him with a knife, causing injuries to his face, left hand, and chest. They also stole his mobile phone, wallet, and a bag containing clothes before leaving the scene. Police reached the spot after receiving a call and took Kumar to a hospital. A case has been registered, and CCTV footage is under review to identify the assailants.
