Hyderabad: Central zone DCP M. Venkateshwarlu said that M Pravallika was unhappy after her boyfriend, Shivaram Rathod of Kosgi in Mahbubnagar, decided to marry another woman.
“We examined Pravallika’s mobile phone, collected chats and CDR and WhatsApp chats. It was found that Pravallika committed suicide after her boyfriend, who she wanted to marry, betrayed her and got married to someone else,” Venkateshwarulu said.
“We also collected CCTV footage where Pravallika and Shivaram were spotted together. We have sent them for forensic examination,” the DCP said. He also said that Pravallika’s friends, in their statements, mentioned that she was upset about being cheated by her boyfriend.
The police said they recovered a suicide note from Pravallika’s hostel room which read: “Mother, do not cry for me, I am not able to do anything here. I am doing injustice to you and father, no one will forgive me for that. Mother, kindly take care of father.”
The DCP warned of action against protesters.
Protesters, however, accused the police of levelling false allegations to protect the government.
“Since coming to the city in 2021, she had taken over Rs 1.5 lakh from her parents for coaching fees, hostel accommodation and meals. Police are making false allegations,” DYFI state general secretary Mohammed Javed said.
A friend of Pravallika’s said she had stopped talking to others and preferred to remain alone. “Whenever we tried to encourage her, she used to state that she was from a very poor family and that they pinned their hopes on her. She used to say that she did not want to disappoint them at any cost,” one of Pravallika’s friends said.
