Hyderabad: Tenants kidnap neighbour's kid
18-month-old girl left in a shop at Tupran.
Hyderabad: Two tenants who took a flat on rent kidnapped an infant from their neighbour's house in Medchal. The abductors abandoned the kid at a tailor’s shop in Tupran and escaped, after coming to know the police had launched a search for the child.
The 18-month-old girl’s father N. Srinivas said the kidnappers, a woman and a man, took the flat on rent 20 days ago pretending to be a married couple, and showed great affection to his child from the beginning.
On Wednesday evening the couple took permission to take the baby out when they were going to market. They took the child and never returned, Srinivas said.
As the couple did not return, Srinivas and his wife Shailaja approached the police when they felt suspicious, and the police launched a search.
Medchal police said the abductors were living in the rented flat under a false identity. “They had moved in 20 days ago and behaved politely with Srinivas’ family. They used to play with his child and visit his house often. But Srinivas did not know their true intentions,” said Petbasheerabad ACP S. Ashok Kumar.
“When we started investigating, we found the couple had not given their phone number to even the house owner or Srinivas. They are now gone finally leaving no trace,” said the ACP.
After the police started a search following a complaint from Srinivas and his wife, a tailor from Tupran called the police saying that a girl was left with him by two people.
“Knowing our teams were searching for them, the kidnappers left the kid at the tailor’s shop saying they wanted to relieve themselves. They then escaped,” said the ACP. A kidnap case has been filed, and a search is on for the couple.
